With the publication of the Regulation (EU) 2020/1149, the European Commission has introduced a new restriction (restriction no. 74), according to the European Regulation 1907/2006 (REACH) about the industrial or professional use of substances and mixtures containing diisocyanates.
This restriction implies that, starting from 24 August 2023 the use of diisocyanates, as such or within other substances or mixtures, will not be allowed unless one of these two conditions is fulfilled:
- the concentration of diisocyanates, considered individually and in combination, is lower than
0.1% in weight - the employer or self-employed worker must ensure that industrial or professional users
successfully complete a specific training about the safe use of diisocyanates before using the
substances or mixtures involved
This training obligation involves every industrial and professional user, meaning employees and selfemployed workers who handle diisocyanates for industrial and professional use or who are in charge
with the supervision of these tasks.
In order to fulfil this obligation, Cavenaghi S.p.A. decided to use the platform provided by the European Association of Isocyanate Producers, of which ISOPA and ALIPA are members, in collaboration with the European associations of downstream users.
This platform is available at the site:
The platform provides many courses covering various uses of diisocyanates, so it is important that you carry out a thorough evaluation of your own process so that you can best identify the course best suited to your needs.
To date, all Cavenaghi S.p.A. staff who use diisocyanates or have direct responsibility for them have successfully completed the training.
